A lot of overeating has to do with emotional eating. In order to learn how to stop overeating, you must first identify the emotional reasons that lead to reaching for food, especially the wrong foods. After all, people rarely reach for carrots or celery to satisfy emotional eating needs.
When you work with our Hungry Heart counselors the first thing you will do is to take a quiz that focuses on your emotional eating triggers. Questions are easy and the approach is caring, probing things such as:
I tend to over eat certain types of food.
I sometimes worry that I won’t get enough to eat or I’ll never stop eating.
I feel bad about my weight, which makes me feel like a failure.
I want to lose weight to please people who are important in my life.
For no reason, I will sometimes find that I am extremely hungry.
Once we look at the results of your quiz we can start pinpointing the reasons and causes of your emotional eating triggers.
Remember, the counselors at Hungry Heart Program have been exactly where you are. This helps you because we can identify the masks that you may be presenting and the underlying issues of why you’ve been turning to the food. Our program will help you not only identify why you are overeating, but work through the true reasons why you’ve been turning to food so you can start overcoming emotional eating for good.
You can only find success with overcoming emotional overeating when you learn how to prioritize taking care of yourself. Life will hold challenges, and it will take work to overcome those challenges without reaching for self-sabotaging foods. We will help you develop new tools and mechanisms for responding to the stress of daily living. We will help you learn how to reach for foods that satisfy and meet your nutritional needs while teaching you how to develop personal emotional support. You no longer need to feel guilty about eating. You can finally learn how to end the dieting and binging merry-go-round.
The first step to learn how to stop overeating for emotional reasons is to contact a counselor at the Hungry Heart and let us take the journey with you. This initial step may be hard, but after you take that first step we walk the rest of the way with you.
